Just a quick note this week on the fantastic CICMA/CIAA Joint Conference. A fantastic panel discussion plus an engaging guest speaker at the luncheon made it a fantastic day. Running into so many old friends made it even better, and kudos to the organizers of the after party.
It was interesting being on the trade show floor the next day for the OIAA Claims Conference. By far the most prevalent trade booths were the rehabilitation / Independent Medical Examination vendors and the restoration contractors. What struck me was that the world had shifted so much for the IME vendors as of September 1, and yet 5 months later, they were still operating as they had prior to that date. Clearly they’ve either found a way to work within the new guidelines, or a “shake-out” of their industry is not yet imminent.
I also wondered who would want to be in an industry where the whole business model can shift at the whim of the government trying to re-gain the confidence of the populace. Government in that spot would sell their grandmother for a handful of votes. Then again, insurers are subject to regulatory whim as well.
It makes me think that my original premise was probably correct.
